Car Trouble

Esau, his dad, Jacob, Gerson, and I were on our way to Xela to visit Esa's grandma and grandpa when we got a phone call from his mom that their Xela-bound car had broken down en route. The males in my car had been planning to bike part of the way, but this minor crisis proved to be more urgent than the need for exercise so we made a u-turn and headed to the rescue.

After Gerson (he's the car man- Esa's oldest brother) tried for awhile to get the van running, the tow-truck came. I will add that the following day it took him a total of a half hour to fix!

Blanca, typical mom, is rushing to-and-fro, transfering things from one vehicle to the other.

Boarding the chicken bus Carlos hailed to take them back to the city. It was very spur-of-the-moment!

Oops. Forgot something. And chicken buses don't wait!

Testotorone levels soared as the van was being loaded.

Jacob
*And, in conclusion, Alex (Gerson and him changed places), Jacob, Esau, Marco Tulio (dad), and I once again headed for Xela. This time we made it... in time for supper even!
**One final memory of the trip: the first day of the new year it's traditional for the children to stand alongside the road asking for candy from the cars that pass. They do this by smiling and waving (and waving and waving... some of them looked like their little arms were about ready to fall off). We didn't have any candy but resolved to remember for next year!

  1. Katie,
This post was very entertaining! Love the running after the chicken bus shot and the van loading picture. (as well as the comments) But I esp. like the composition of the last photo of Jacob watching the "grua." Good eye!

  2. Um hi. Executive comment there mummy. Had a couple of good laughs while viewing this post. To be honest, I still have no clue who went where and when but it all looks very entertaining to me so I'm happy. Very amusing to see Blanca practically spinning over the whole scene and the next photo is Esa watching casually. One thing about Guate is you always get where you're going. Sometimes in 20 minutes, sometimes in four hours.

  3. I'm with Amy, I didn't quite decide who was going where, but I really enjoyed the whole affair anyway! It's the daily complications of life that keep it interesting. The "chicken" bus? whatever :) :)
