La Feria... The Fair

La feria, or the fair, is one of the places the Escobar's sell the clothes they make in their house. Christmas is an especially busy time of year, as, in addition the their normal sales, they also set up two little stores such as the one below. Although Guatemala is much less commercialized than the U.S., they haven't completely escaped the Christmas craze. The days I spent at the fair (Friday, Saturday, part of Sunday, and Monday) showed me that! In this photo: Esau, Rosemary (one of the girls that helped them sell), twin brother Jacob, and another one of the sales girls... Spanish names don't always stick that well. :)

These are two of the girls who worked at the other location. They were very sweet and included me on a bit of their girl gossip... That concept doesn't change much from country to country!

Esa- GQ style

Alex, Esau's older brother. Blusa-35 quetzales, pantalon- 80 quetzales. That's about $4.50 and $10.50, respectively.... a markdown for the last day of sales.

Some business... The Guatemalan way: no one hesitates to argue over a few Quetzales!

Jacob with a little girl whose mom worked at the store next to ours. You can bet she was there ALL day EVERY day and didn't complain.

Esa and I. He spent a lot of time standing on this stool yelling out "ofertas" (offers).

Business as usual
